What a room in a shared flat includes
You rent one bedroom and share the kitchen, the living areas and usually the bathroom with the other tenants. Most rooms are in flats with five or six bedrooms, and almost all are in flats with four to eight.
Rooms come furnished. Most have a double bed, a desk and a wardrobe, and most also have a lock on the door. A small number of rooms have their own bathroom.
Bedding is usually not included, so plan to bring or buy sheets and towels. Most flats also list a TV and a cleaning service.

Where the shared flats are
Most rooms are in Eixample and the Gothic Quarter, both close to the centre of the city. Other flats are in Gràcia, Sarrià, El Clot, Sant Gervasi and Poble-sec.

What to check before you book
Start with the move-in date, because availability varies from room to room. A room that suits you on price may not be free for your semester.
Then check whether the bathroom is shared, whether the room has an outside window and whether bedding is included. These details differ between rooms in the same flat.
Look at how many bedrooms the flat has as well. A flat with four bedrooms feels different from one with eight, even at a similar rent.
