Cookie Policy
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This page lists the cookies studenthousingabroad.com uses and lets you change your choice. For how we handle personal data in general, see our Privacy Policy.
Your choice
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, analytics, referral and advertising cookies stay off until you accept them. A code you type at checkout still works either way. Elsewhere they are on by default and you can turn them off here. Strictly necessary cookies are always on because the site does not work without them.
We use Google Consent Mode. While analytics or advertising cookies are off, Google Analytics still receives cookieless signals (for example, that a page was viewed) with no identifier stored in your browser, which Google uses for aggregate, modelled reports.
What Google Analytics receives
Page addresses without personal details (we remove query parameters other than campaign tags and the city), page titles, listing ids, cities, the partner organization that referred you, an internal id (never the text) of any promo or referral code used at checkout, and booking fee amounts. We never send your name, email address, phone number or anything you type into a form. When you book, our server tells Google Analytics that the booking fee was paid, but only if you allowed analytics cookies.
Cookies we use
| Type | Cookies | Purpose | How long |

| Strictly necessary | __session, __client_uat and other Clerk cookies | Keep you signed in and protect your account. | Session to 1 year |
| Strictly necessary | __stripe_mid, __stripe_sid | Set by Stripe on checkout and payment pages to prevent fraud. | Up to 1 year |
| Strictly necessary | sha_consent | Remembers your cookie choice. | 180 days |
| Functional | sha_qf, sha_welcome_*, program_cohort_link_*, program_landing_visit | Remember your search answers and the program or university link you arrived from. | Up to 90 days |
| Referral (with your consent where required, part of Analytics) | traffic_attribution, partner_ref, affiliate_ref | Remember which campaign, partner organization or referral link sent you, so the right partner gets credit and any referral discount applies. Kept on our own servers and not shared with Google. | Up to 90 days |
| Functional | partner_self_report | Remembers your answer if you tell us at checkout which school, program or agency sent you. | Up to 90 days |
| Analytics (with your consent where required) | _ga, _ga_L9ZF50GJV6 | Google Analytics: counts visits and shows which pages help students find housing. | 2 years |
| Advertising (with your consent where required) | Google advertising cookies | Let Google measure and personalize our ads on other sites. There are no ads on this site. | Up to 13 months |
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies stops sign-in and checkout from working.
